In Russia, WhatsApp has begun to be gradually blocked
In a statement made to the Russian news agency TASS by the Russian Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor), assessments were provided regarding the access issues experienced with WhatsApp today.
Pointing out that WhatsApp continues to violate Russian laws, the statement said, "This messaging application is being used in the country to organize terrorist acts, recruit perpetrators, commit fraud against our citizens, and carry out other crimes."
Noting that WhatsApp has not complied with the steps taken by Russia to prevent these crimes, the statement included the following: "For this reason, we are continuously taking restrictive measures against WhatsApp. The restrictions are being implemented gradually, allowing users to transition to other messaging applications."
The statement noted that citizens should switch to domestic messaging applications and that if WhatsApp does not comply with Russian legislation, it will be completely blocked.
While calls via WhatsApp and Telegram are being restricted in Russia for security and anti-fraud purposes, the MAX application, which was launched a short time ago, has begun to spread rapidly, especially among public institutions.
